Stamp

CY: My studio is one big experimental laboratory these days as I grope around to find an entry point into a new painting series. What would happen if I used a doily as a stamp? That's how I ended up laminating the panel with a sheet of stamped foolscap. (What an archaic word....)

V....when I got this one back for its final transformation I immediately thought of the maple leaf as the jam jar lid in the middle says made in Canada.  Could not resist using those little flags in the corners and adding a bit more red here and there!

Stage 3

C: Using Val's painted design as a focal point, I started playing with the space between a mandala and banal household objects. Embedded behind an old glass Canada Gem lid, Val's markings seem a little more mysterious.

CY: I am the lucky recipient of heaps of doilies from someone's mom. I thought this one might make an interesting ground.
